Editorial : Received letter from Mr R.B.Thompson ,84 yrs old a founder and member of the Arsenal 1st Team. He corrects Bernard Joy of Arsenal editorials on the constitution of the team in Arsenals first game against Eastern Wanderers.<>br> Bernard had given the the left wing as Morris and Duggan; in fact it was Wells and Thmpson himself. Thompson scored the first Arsenal goal when the ball bumped off his leg into the net. Thompson says the name and colours of the club were settled at a hotel at Erith after they had played a local club. George Smith suggested a uniform dress . They all displayed their shirts, jerseys ,etc. thet were all eliminated except 2 , A Red Shirt and A Blue Jersey with a maroon band. On a vote the red shirt was chosen. The name was then discussed and Dial Square was popular as 5 of the most prominenet players worked there. 5 other players working in the Arsenal bitterly opposed the name . Thompson was a pupil teacher and George Smith asked him for his thoughts. Thompson replied Who outside woolwich has heard of Dial square, who has not heard of the Royal Arsenal. The name Royal Arsenal was officially confirmed at a meeting at the Royal oak
